What are you proposing to do? (Product, Range & Distribution)

My project will be to create 5 books focusing around independent industries in Leeds. There are 5 main independent industries in leeds- drink, fashion & lifestyle, food, music and art & design. I will then create and apply text to 6 drawings for each of these categories. The drawing will be of certain independent places in that category that stand out. My research will inform these decisions.  I will create the books using a limited colour palette and design it using spot colour channels.

What do you want achieve?

I want to create something that celebrates all things independent in Leeds. I also want it to be something that could actually be used and applied in Leeds. I want to be able to go into an independent shop that I look at and sell them some books or a print.

What do you want learn from doing it?

I want to use design to help my illustrations. I want to expand my work from being simple prints to something that exists on a product. I want to learn how to apply my designs and illustrations more practically. I want to understand design and text better. I want to learn more about maps and binding techniques.

PRODUCTION / DISTRIBUTION METHODS: The product will either be printed digitally. In industry the design would most likely be printed using spot colours digitally so this may be the route to look at however the costing would outweigh the need.
