Great pieces of illustration/design that incorporate layout

I have been researching good pieces of illustration and design that incorporate layout. These particular pieces stood out to me. I love the mix of colour and shape with text, all intertwined together. This is something that I am going to include in my editorial brief; I will create a piece of illustration that will take into account the text before I have even started the article. This is a skill that I need to at least understand for if I want to work with some more creative newspapers and magazines. I feel like the key to doing this right is to make sure that the illustration is clear and bold so that it supports the text yet holds its own.
